Poet & Visual Artist Bring New Festival to Their Hometown of Mason!

Hailing from Mason, MI, two local career artists, Poet Morgan Madden and Visual Artist & Body Painter Sarah Renee Sanders will bring a performing & visual arts festival to the town & region they call home. The artists have produced “Rooted Reverence”, an all-day art festival that will take place in Downtown Mason, MI on Saturday, June 11th, 2022 from 11am – 7pm.

The festival will feature over 30 performing artists from around the state, as well as over 50 art, craft, and food vendors. Artists of a variety of media including solo musicians, vocalists, singer/songwriters, stand-up comedians, hula hoop dancers, cyr wheel spinners, poets, authors, beatboxers, painters, wood burning artists, illustrators, craft makers, and food vendors will all be a part of the festivities.

This event is free and open to the public, and is intended for all ages, demographics, and audiences. To find out more about “Rooted Reverence”, and to stay up to date on the event visit: www.facebook.com/rootedreverence

The duo of Morgan & Sarah announced the festival via social media at the beginning of April with a time-lapse video of Sarah doing a Rooted Reverence themed body paint accompanied by a voice-over poem written & performed by Morgan entitled Flattery.

“It is our distinct honor to bring art, poetry, music, and all the joys that come with them to Mason,” said Madden. “The goal since the beginning has been to show our love and appreciation for our hometown while showcasing talent from all across the state.”

Sarah, a 2015 graduate of Mason High School, hopes the festival shows young aspiring artists in Mason that it is possible to have a career as an artist. “In showcasing this talent, we hope to inspire, motivate, and sow the seeds of the future artists yet to come, while honoring those who’ve made their way,” said Sanders. Both Morgan & Sarah are thrilled to work with the City of Mason and the vast array of highly talented artists from so many different respective media and disciplines.

Rooted Reverence seeks to honor the roots from which artists blossom, and is intended to highlight the wealth of artistry specifically in Mason, and the Greater Lansing area. Jefferson Street in Downtown Mason will be closed to traffic that day, with a stage outside featuring mostly musical performers. The event will also honor Morgan’s mother Stacey, who was a lifelong Mason resident.

A stage inside Bestsellers Books and Coffee Company, Stacey’s favorite place to go in Mason, will be named in her honor, and will feature authors & poets performing throughout the day. There will also be art, craft, and food vendors spread out along the alley across from the County Courthouse. All of the performing & visual art, as well as the food & beverages are all Michigan made. Sometimes, art imitates life, and with Rooted Reverence, life will imitate art.
